SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Workington – Full Time

Hannett Hale Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and supportive primary school in the Workington area. We are seeking a dedicated Full‑Time Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with significant developmental delays from September 2026 until July 2027.

About this Teaching Assistant role

Job Details:

You will be working 1:1 with a child who requires full‑time support. The child is non‑verbal and communicates through body language and vocalisations. The pupils developmentally are delayed and engages with learning at an exploratory and is working at a significantly earlier developmental stage.

The pupil is unable to access the curriculum through teacher‑led activities and can only maintain attention for short periods unless the activity is self‑chosen. The teaching assistant will help plan personalised, sensory‑based activities engagement curriculum to.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting the child through personalised, exploratory and sensory‑based learning
  • Creating a calm, nurturing and consistent environment
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SEN team to deliver tailored activities
  • Supporting the child’s communication, emotional regulation and engagement
  • Building positive relationships with staff, parents and external professionals
  • Contributing to the wider life of this warm and inclusive school

To be considered, you must have:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Recent experience working in a school environment
  • Experience supporting SEN children on a 1:1 basis
  • A patient, nurturing and child‑centred approach
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • A calm, consistent and proactive attitude
