About this Teaching Assistant role

Job Details:

We are seeking a full-time Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support for a pupil in Reception from 2nd November 2026 until the end of the academic year in July 2027.

The pupil requires significant support throughout the school day and is currently working at a much lower developmental level than their peers. Much of their learning takes place through play-based activities and practical engagement. The successful candidate will need to provide consistent encouragement, structure, and support to help the pupil access learning opportunities and develop key social and communication skills.

The child can display behaviours more typically associated with a much younger developmental age and therefore requires a patient, nurturing, and understanding adult who can build a positive and trusting relationship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Support the pupil’s learning through play-based and practical activities.
  • Adapt activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs and developmental stage.
  • Encourage communication, interaction, and engagement with learning.
  • Recognise when the pupil may become overwhelmed and implement appropriate support strategies.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SEND team, and wider school staff.
  • Support the pupil with transitions throughout the school day.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, caring, and nurturing
  • Able to build strong relationships with children
  • Confident supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Calm and resilient when faced with challenging situations
  • Creative and enthusiastic about play-based learning
  • Able to work independently and use their initiative
  • Passionate about helping children reach their full potential

Previous experience working within Early Years, SEND, Autism, Speech and Language, or supporting children with developmental delays would be advantageous, although not essential for the right candidate.

What We Offer

  • Full-time work from November 2026 to July 2027.
  • Competitive rates of pay.
  • Holiday pay included within your hourly rate.
  • Weekly pay.
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated local consultant.
  • The opportunity to gain valuable experience within a supportive school setting.
  • A rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to a child’s education and development.
